WARE Meetings

Monday, February 2, 2026

WARE holds two meetings each month.

-A general meeting is held on the first Monday of each month at 6:00 pm at rotating sites around Wayne County.  Meeting locations are posted on the WARE FB page before each meeting. Below are the locations for 2026 meetings.
-January 5 (Sodus Community Library, 17 Maple Ave., Sodus, NY 14551), February 2 (St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, 400 South Main St., Newark, NY 14513), March 2 (Rural & Migrant Ministries (RMM) WNY, 7 Phelps St., Lyons, NY 14489), April 6 (Sodus Library), May 4 (St. Mark’s, Newark), and June 1 (RMM WNY, Lyons). Business Meeting via Zoom (open to all WARE Members) (2026): January 19, February 16, March 16, April 20, May 18, and June 15. After June, please check the WARE FB Page for any summer meeting announcements. A Fall Meeting schedule will be announced in June 2026

-A business meeting is held on the third Monday of each month at 6:00 pm via ZOOM.

A meeting invitation is sent to all WARE members in the WARE email group for each meeting a few days prior to that month’s meeting. If you would like to receive the meeting invitation or if you would like additional information about meetings, please call Jim Wood, at 585-967-8687.

CCSI Learning Opportunities: Local Enslavement History/Interrupting Harmful Comments

In the morning (9-11:30), the CCSI Our Local History Team will lead a 2.5-hour workshop on enslavement and migrant worker activism in New York State, allowing educators to experience Days 1-2 of an inquiry-based learning unit aligned with the NYS Social Studies Framework, NYS SEL Benchmarks, CASEL 3 Signature Practices, and the NYS Culturally Responsive Framework.

In the afternoon (12:30 - 3:00), the CCSI Our Local History team will conduct a 2.5-hour workshop on interrupting harmful comments and repairing harm when it is caused. Participants will explore and adapt the Learning for Justice Speak Up at School guide: how to respond when someone — a student, a colleague, even a parent — uses biased language or stereotypes in school.

2025 Wayne County Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day Celebration

Monday, January 20, 2025

Theme: the importance of struggling against racism in all its forms in the spirit of Dr. King’s legacy of non-violent resistance.

11:45 AM: Gather at the Williamson Main St. parking lot with a 12:00 noon Commemorative March led by Justice Organization for Youth (JOY)

12:45-3:15 PM: Program at Redeem Bethel C.O.G.I.C. Community Fellowship Center (4496 Rte. 104, Williamson, NY 14589)

-Keynote address by James Schuler

-Short motivational talks from Wayne County schools’ young alumni

-Uplifting performances from The Redeem Bethel Youth Choir and others

3:15 PM: A free Community Meal immediately following the Celebration Program.

Worker Justice Center Lawsuit Virtual Teach-in:

NYS Vegetable Growers Association and several NY farm businesses filed a lawsuit in federal court last October challenging farmworkers' collective bargaining rights, as granted by the 2019 Farm Laborers Fair Labor Practices Act. This is a virtual teach-in for farmworker leaders, advocates, and allies to learn more about the context of this lawsuit, the legal issues it presents, and its implications for farmworker organizing in New York State and beyond. Facilitators and speakers include:

  • Maggie Gray, Associate Professor Political Science - Adelphi University

  • Maria Anie Uribe, Union Representative/Organizer - UFCW Local One / Trabajadores Agricolas Unidos - NY UFCW/RWDSU
