Upcoming eventsNewark Public Library: "Exploring James Baldwin"
James Baldwin was an American essayist, novelist, and playwright whose eloquence and passion on the subject of race in America made him one of
the20th century’s greatest writers. Baldwin broke new literary ground exploring racial and social issues through his works. He is especially known
for his eloquent, thoughtful, and passionate essays on the Black experience in America.
Through four alternating weeks, we’ll explore some of Baldwin’s writings, culminating with a showing of the documentary film, I am not your Negro,
which is based on a final unfinished Baldwin manuscript.
Join us for an enlightening and fascinating exploration and discussion of this interesting and complex American writer—whether you’ve read Baldwin
before or not.
Registration is through theNewark Library Events tab on our website at newarklibrary.org

Wayne County Police Reform Collaborative: Committee Opportunities
WARE has been actively involved in the Police Reform effort in Wayne County. After Governor Cuomo presented Executive Order 203, Police Reform and Reinvention Collaborative, Wayne County produced its flawed response with minimal input from residents. The Board of Supervisors did approve the development of 4 committees to continue the reform initiative in the county plan. WARE has been asked to invite community members to join these committees:1.Sheriff’s Office Policy Review Committee, 2. Civilian Review Advisory Board,3. Minority Community Advocacy Board, and 4. EO 203 Independent Advisory Committee.
WARE would like volunteers to join us in our efforts to improve police-community relations through this committee structure. For that reason, we will be holding a Zoom discussion on the purpose for the committees and how we can proceed. We have invited speakers from two communities who have already started this process . I think we will all find this enlightening and it will allow us to efficiently proceed to make Wayne County a safer place for all of us. The details are still being developed.
